As I began my healing journey, it seemed only natural that music would be a part of it. Songs that touched me, that moved and soothed me in my own healing process were set aside for some, then unknown, future use. As I began to shift the energy I held around my core issue of being “defective, broken and unfixable”, a miraculous thing occurred. Within six months of my beginning to use RADICAL Forgiveness, I had recorded my CD of healing songs, Shadows of Light.
I came to the planet to teach and learn self-love and acceptance. Some of who I am has been easy to accept and love- the parts of me that are kind, loving and generous. There are some parts of me, however, that my ego still tries to convince me belong to someone else. I just don’t like to admit that I can be lazy, stupid or selfish.
Fortunately, for me, I am not alone in this. We all have parts of ourselves that we don’t like or that we’ve denied or disowned. Carl Jung called it the “shadow”. I call it the “kids in the basement”. Regardless of what we call these disowned parts, they are there within each of us patiently waiting to be met with love and understanding. As I heard each of the songs on this CD for the first time, they touched my heart with that love and understanding. As I sang these songs to myself, I found that it wasn’t the kind, loving parts of LaWanda that needed them. It was the parts that weren’t so pretty, the parts I didn’t like. The kind, loving parts of me already knew what love was. It was those other parts that craved my own love and acceptance because they had never had it.
It is my prayer that these songs will touch those hidden parts of you as they did me. For it is only when we embrace all of who we are that we can become whole. And as each of us become whole, the world is healed.
